The Power of Personal Training: Why One-to-One Sessions Fast-Track Your Progress
Group classes are a fantastic way to move, connect with others, and enjoy the shared energy of a community. They’re fun, social, and motivating. But sometimes, if you want to accelerate your progress, overcome a specific challenge, or focus on a particular goal, nothing compares to one-to-one personal training.
This is why I offer private sessions alongside my group yoga and Pilates classes. They allow me to dedicate all of my energy and attention to you—your body, your needs, and your personal journey. Over the years, I’ve seen how this focused approach helps clients achieve breakthroughs in a fraction of the time compared to group settings.
Why One-to-One Training Makes a Difference
In a group class, my role is to hold space for everyone, providing modifications and progressions so that a room full of different bodies and abilities can each find what works for them. It’s inclusive, supportive, and effective.
But in one-to-one training, there is no need to generalise. Every sequence, every posture, and every explanation is designed specifically for you. This allows us to:
-
Target your goals – Whether it’s improving posture, building core strength, recovering from an injury, or reducing stress, sessions are built entirely around your priorities.
-
Adapt to your body – If you have back or shoulder pain, restricted mobility, or other unique needs, I tailor movements so you can progress safely.
-
Perfect your form – In group classes, I keep an eye on everyone, but in 1-1s I can give instant feedback on alignment, breathing, and technique. This precision makes every movement more effective.
-
Move at your pace – Some people want to slow down and build confidence; others want to progress into more advanced variations. Personal training meets you where you are.
This is why 1-1 sessions are such an efficient way to make progress. They remove guesswork and ensure that every minute of practice moves you closer to your goals.
The Value of Experience
My private training sessions are also a reflection of the years of study and practice I’ve invested in yoga and Pilates. My qualifications include:
-
Yoga training with Simon Low at The Yoga Academy, further yin practice with Bernie Clark and Paul Grilly, and somatic work with Charlotte Watts.
-
Pilates training through Future Fit School of Pilates, with plans to expand further through Polestar Pilates.
-
Over 15 years of teaching experience, with thousands of hours guiding students across all abilities.
This depth of training allows me to blend techniques from yoga, Pilates, mindfulness, and strength work into sessions that are holistic and adaptable. When you book a one-to-one session, you’re not just paying for the hour—we’re drawing on decades of learning and hands-on experience.
This is also why the cost of private training is higher than group classes. It reflects the concentrated expertise, attention, and personalised care you receive.
How One-to-One Sessions Fast-Track Your Progress
The difference between group classes and personal training is a little like the difference between attending a lecture and working with a private tutor. Both have enormous value, but one accelerates your learning by focusing entirely on you.
Here are the key ways that one-to-one training can fast-track your progress:
-
Undivided Attention – Every cue, adjustment, and explanation is directed at you. There’s no dividing attention across a class.
-
Immediate Corrections – Small misalignments or habits can be spotted and corrected instantly, preventing injury and making practice more effective.
-
Personalised Progressions – You don’t have to follow a general pace. If you’re ready to move on, we go further. If you need more time, we slow down.
-
Confidence Building – Some people use 1-1 sessions as a safe space to learn the basics before joining group classes. Others use them to explore advanced variations. Both approaches accelerate confidence and capability.
-
Accountability and Motivation – Having a dedicated teacher means you’re less likely to drift or lose focus. It provides structure and accountability that many clients find invaluable.
I’ve seen clients achieve visible improvements in posture, mobility, and strength within weeks of starting one-to-one training. These kinds of results are possible because the sessions are designed specifically to make the best use of your time and energy.
Balancing One-to-One and Group Training
For many people, the best approach is not to choose between private and group sessions but to combine them. Group classes provide community, energy, and variety, while one-to-one sessions offer the deep focus needed for personal breakthroughs.
Some clients book a series of private sessions to build confidence before joining regular group classes. Others attend weekly group classes but supplement them with occasional one-to-one sessions to work on form or target a specific challenge.
This combination provides the best of both worlds—community connection and personal focus.
One-to-One Across Settings: In-Person and Online
During the pandemic, I adapted my teaching to an online format. Today, I continue to offer online sessions alongside in-person training.
Online one-to-one sessions are especially valuable for those with busy schedules or who live further away. With high-quality video and guided instruction, clients can enjoy the benefits of personalised training from their own home.
In-person sessions, on the other hand, allow me to work with you more directly—adjusting alignment hands-on if needed, and making use of studio equipment to enhance practice.
Both options provide the same tailored attention, and the choice depends on what works best for you.
Real-Life Results
The true power of one-to-one training is best seen through client outcomes. Over the years, I’ve supported people in:
-
Reducing chronic back and shoulder pain through Pilates-based core strengthening.
-
Improving posture so dramatically that one client reported feeling taller.
-
Finding calm and resilience through personalised yoga sessions focused on breathwork and relaxation.
-
Regaining confidence and mobility after injury, enabling them to return to daily activities with more ease.
These results come not from quick fixes, but from personalised, mindful progress—made possible by the focus of private training.
Looking Ahead
As I continue to grow my teaching practice, one of my long-term goals is to create a Pilates teacher training programme. Part of this vision is about passing on the value of personalised teaching—helping future instructors understand how to adapt sessions, listen to individual needs, and provide the kind of focused attention that transforms progress.
In the meantime, my one-to-one sessions remain one of the most rewarding parts of my work. They allow me to connect deeply with students, support their growth, and celebrate milestones alongside them.
To sum up
Group classes will always be at the heart of what I do—they create community, connection, and energy. But when it comes to accelerating progress, nothing compares to the focus of one-to-one personal training.
These sessions allow us to move at your pace, target your goals, and adapt everything to your needs. They fast-track progress not by pushing harder, but by working smarter—with precision, care, and mindful attention.
If you’re ready to strengthen your body, improve your mobility, or find more calm in your daily life, a one-to-one session could be the key to unlocking your next level of progress.
